When Jesus walked on this earth He spent His time with common people like you and me.  His goal – to restore humanity.

When Roman Emperor Constantine became a “Christian” he institutionalized Christianity.  What followed is a long story of professional clergy and expensive buildings.

But that is fast changing.  Millions of Christ’s followers are “going” (leaving their church comfort zones) as they accept God’s invitation to join Him in His front-line missionary work – that of restoring humanity and bringing hope and healing to the broken, hurting, and hopeless.

This new normal is radical action.  And you are invited.

1911 Prediction Confirms Church Attendance Mega-Shift

In 1911 Ellen White said,

“Before the final visitation of God’s judgments upon the earth, there will be, among the people of the Lord, such a revival of primitive godliness as has not been witnessed since apostolic times. The Spirit and power of God will be poured out upon His children. At that time many will separate themselves from those churches in which the love of this world has supplanted love for God and His Word. Many, both of ministers and people, will gladly accept those great truths which God has caused to be proclaimed at this time, to prepare a people for the Lord’s second coming.” Great Controversy, p. 464 (italic supplied).

In 1965 Billy Graham said,

Multitudes of Christians within the church are moving toward the point where they may reject the institution that we call the church. They are beginning to turn to more simplified forms of worship. They are hungry for a personal and vital experience with Jesus Christ. They want a heartwarming personal faith. Unless the church quickly recovers its authoritative Biblical message, we may witness the spectacle of millions of Christians going outside the institutional church to find spiritual food.” World Aflame, p. 86.

In 2005 George Barna said well over 20 million have left the church to “go find God.”

“The Revolutionary mind-set is simple: Do whatever it takes to get closer to God and to help others to do the same.  Obliterate any obstacle that prevents you from honoring God with every breath you take. Be such an outstanding example of the Christian faith that no one will question your heart or lifestyle-except those who see institutional survival as equally or more important than the alleged influence of the institution they defend.

Or, put more succinctly, the Revolution is about recognizing that we are not called to go to church. We are called to be the Church.  Revolution, p. 39.

In their new book, Church Refugees: Sociologists Reveal Why People Are DONE With Church but Not Their Faith, Dr. Josh Packard and Ashleigh Hope set out to understand the widespread phenomenon of church decline.

Their latest research, along with that of George Barna and Alan Hirsch, suggests that of the 318 million people in America, 33% (approx. 100 million) have left the church.  And of the 318 million, 60% (approx. 200 million) are not interested in walking into the front doors of a conventional church.

Where are these people going?  “The dechurched tend to construct church alternatives through political and civic engagements, small groups or house churches, or informal but spiritually meaningful gatherings” p. 68.

“As our society approaches a post-institutional era it’s entirely possible the near monopoly that the church has enjoyed over faithful expressions and religious connections may be coming to an end.  The activities of the dechurched may be ushering in a new understanding of what religious activity means.  If this trend continues, it will fundamentally reshape the way Americans experience organized religion” p. 69.

We see it is getting harder and harder to reach non-believers and have them adapt to church life in a typical congregational setting. Simple church brings Kingdom life back to its basics: low in organisation, high in running the core business.

Rudy Dingjan

“We’re finding that Simple Church is especially effective in reaching people who don’t attend any church, and would probably never enter the four walls of a traditional church building. It’s also extremely cost-effective. These congregations have no paid pastors, empower lay people, and don’t have the overhead expenses of church buildings.”

Gary Krause

Can my family come?

Yes! Children love Simple Church planting because it is family integrated.

Simple Church is about reaching “the mission field that lives where you live”—beginning at home with your children. One of the best ways to reach this first mission field is to bring them alongside you as you focus on the mission field.

During the workshop, parents are able keep their children with them; please bring quiet activities for young children.

Does it matter whether I live in the city or the country?

Simple Church is ideal for any location. It does not matter where you live.

Research now suggests that 60% of the population is not interested in walking through the door of a conventional church building.  That means that only 40% of the population is interested in “church.”  What about the 60%?

When you help plant a Simple Church in either an urban or a rural setting, you accept God’s invitation to make a Kingdom difference in people’s lives.

What if I don't live in the Netherlands?

Not a problem.  Registration is open to everyone, no matter where you live.

If fact, if you are from out of state, you play a key role in pioneering Simple Church planting in new areas.

No matter where you are from, try to bring one other family with you who shares your missionary heart.

Come – as an individual, as a family, as a team.
